“Our fashionable little secret: Finding cute kids clothes is great -- finding them at a major discount ... - Raleigh News & Observer” plus 1 more |
| Posted: 18 Oct 2010 03:19 AM PDT Finding cute kids clothes is great. Finding them at a major discount is even better. Enter Zulily, an invitation-only online site that offers the aforementioned cute kids' clothing, plus toys and gear. Oh, and did we mention they offer women's designer clothing, too? The site is the brainchild of two dads who built the wild success of Blue Nile, the online diamond site. They then took their talent and turned it toward two very popular markets these days: the online sample sale and designer childrenswear. But what makes it such a gem? They've worked out deals with loads of good names. from Kate Quinn Organics to Primigi and New Balance. One of our faves up right now is the smart brand Tiny Tales (pictured), which helps busy parents record milestones and simply keep track of little ones' lives. While the site is technically "invitation only," you simply have to sign up to gain access. In fact, referring a friend gets you a $10 credit. So with so little time to shop, combined with the unfortunate fact that kids grow too quickly-which means you should rarely pay full price for anything they own-we say log on to Zulily to save big (shop shop smart). | Twigg: Swap kids' clothes online - Knoxville News Sentinel Posted: 18 Oct 2010 07:51 AM PDT Do you love finding great deals on children's clothing but hate the long lines and crowds of big consignment sales? What if you could experience the benefits of consignment-sale shopping without those hassles? Would you be interested? I thought so. ThredUP (www.thredup.com) is an online children's clothing swap service. To use it, simply go to the website and sign up for a free account. Right away you can begin browsing the listings of available boxes of gently used children's clothing. Each box typically contains 10 or more pieces. Listings do not include pictures, but give detailed descriptions. You can search by gender, size and season. When you see a box you want, all you pay is $5, plus shipping (currently $10.70). Boxes are mailed via USPS Priority Mail and usually arrive within 2-5 business days. ThredUP is a swap, so before receiving another box, you must post a box that you have available. After signing up, ThredUP sends you a supply of USPS Priority boxes to begin filling and posting. When another member requests one of your boxes, ThredUP generates a label and schedules a pick-up. All you have to do is print the shipping label with postage, put it on the box, and leave the box on your doorstep for your mail carrier to pick up. Each box you send entitles you to request another box. To ensure fair swapping, ThredUp asks all members to follow the "Golden ThredUP Rule:" only send items you'd want to receive. ThredUP also uses a rating system that helps hold shippers accountable. If for some reason a recipient isn't happy, ThredUP will credit the person's account for items that did not meet quality standards. Recently, I talked with ThredUP member Tina Sloan of Fountain City. Thus far, she has completed several swaps and had only good things to say. "I have gotten super good stuff: tons of Gap, Children's Place, Zutano, Gymboree. Everything was in great shape, perfectly clean and on par or better than children's consignment sales," she said. I have not yet used ThredUP, but am looking forward to trying it. At $15.70 a box, the price per item averages out to $1.50 or less. That's similar to what I'd pay at yard sales, but without ever leaving the comfort of my home!
