| East Windsor kids' clothing store reborn - Windsor Star Posted: 04 May 2010 07:28 AM PDT Rather than see a longtime Windsor store where she'd bought clothing for her children close after 25 years, Tiziana Gobbato Berlasty decided to buy it. Now the owner of Little Lords Little Ladies, established more than two decades ago by Deb Toth and Irene Belanger, Gobbato Berlasty is carrying on the tradition of personal service and high quality with a few added twists of her own. "I'd always had a dream of owning my own business but, as a nurse, I never had the time," she said. "Then I took some time off to look after my dad before he lost his battle with cancer and he told me if I wanted to do it then I should go for it. He said the fact I knew how to care for people as a nurse meant I'd be able to look after people as customers." So when Gobbato Berlasty heard that Toth, who had become the sole owner after buying out Belanger, was planning to sell the store, she decided to become her own boss. "I didn't want to see what Debbie and Irene had built disappear. "My husband and I took a drive along Wyandotte from the west end to the east end and it's full of thriving independent businesses of every type," said Gobbato Berlasty, who took over in March. "I knew then it was right. "Out of grief, death and despair comes rebirth, renewal and hope. I can sense it in this city and I wanted to be part of it." The store still carries a wide range of clothing and shoes for boys and girls -- from preemies to early teens. Gobbato Berlasty has also added her own touches. "I still try to buy Canadian whenever I can. I try to find locally made clothing and I'm always on the lookout for Fair Trade goods when I do have to buy from overseas. And I won't sell clothing that sexualizes children." In addition, one line of clothing sold in the store helps support villages in India and Thailand. Gobbato Berlasty also supports a different charity each month by donating proceeds and selling items in the store supplied by different charities. This month, she's selling key rings and offering gift wrapping services in exchange for a donation in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Last month, she collected prom dresses for girls who otherwise couldn't afford one and donated funds to buy others. "I've always believed you can run a business and still have a social conscience," she said. "But what I like most is that I'm going to be the author of my own future. "I've always had to run ideas through committees but here I delegate to myself." Gobbato Berlasty said many of the store's customers are third-generation because "it's a store which has always represented quality and service. "I've added my own passion and I feel privileged and honoured to be able to play a small part in the lives of my customers," she said. "I'm getting to know people in the neighbourhood, those that walk by or stop in for a chat, and there's a real sense of community along this stretch of Wyandotte." Gobbato Berlasty continues to offer nursing services as a pain management consultant with Encompass Health and has taken on two part-time employees to help in the store. | Alex fumes over Jordan jibes - The Sun Posted: 04 May 2010 04:57 AM PDT ALEX Reid has stuck up for his wife Jordan after property expert Kirstie Allsopp slagged her off her parenting skills. The cage fighter waded in to the war of words between the pair after Kirstie slated the glamour girl for using her kids in magazine photoshoots and to promote her clothing range. Alex, 34, fumed: "Who's Kirstie Allsopp and why is she slagging off my wife? What motivated her to criticise how Katie brings up the kids?" Last month, mum-of-four Kirstie sniped that the glamour girl might as well "put her kids up a chimney" to make money. Alex added in his Star magazine column: "I really don't understand why Katie gets those criticisms. If she was referring to the modelling, I say why shouldn't they do that? I don't see any problem in it whatsoever. "It seems anytime someone wants a front page these days, they just take a pop at Katie or me. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." The harsh comments come after Jordan herself hit back at the telly host saying she didn't even know who she was. The mum-of-three, real name Katie Price, was said to have moaned: "I have never even heard of her, so it's bizarre and quite funny that she is just using my name to further her own career." Kirstie said she would loved to have started a kids' clothing range but couldn't bring herself to use her children to model it like Jordan's tots Princess Tiaamii, two and Junior, four, recently did.
