How to Give Your Old Winter Clothing a Fresh New Look - Associated Content

Posted: 21 Oct 2010 03:30 AM PDT

Many adults have had to tighten up their budgets a lot over the past few years. This includes cutting back on their shopping budget. When it comes to kids you really have no choice but to buy them new clothes each
season, due to the fact that they usually grow out of them. For adults however, the only thing that ends up changing is our weight. Since this is manageable we can really work at keeping the same winter clothes. If you want a new look you can very easily give your old winter clothing a brand new look by just trying a few simple techniques. Below you will find some of those suggestions.

Shorten it

To give a shirt a very different look, or even a jacket you can cut it a bit, and turn it into something completely different. For example if you have a shirt that happens to hang past your waistline, you can trim it up until it reaches your waist. Be sure to pin the clothing item first so that it is at the right length that you would like. Once you have done that, you can easily hand sew the edges. I would recommend that you use a sewing machine for this part. A sewing machine will make it a lot easier, and quicker to finish, but if you don't have one you can still sew it by hand.

Patch up holes

As clothes get older, they begin to get a little worn out. When this happens you may suddenly begin to see holes in your clothing. When this happens you can easily find the same type of fabric at your local arts, and craft store. When you have found the matching material you can easily patch up any holes that you have found. This will give your clothing a fresh clean, and new look.

Add or take away

One thing that you can easily do is add a few buttons to a shirt, or even take a few away. Try being creative and coming up with a new way to really give a piece of clothing a different look. If the zipper is broken for example this does not mean that you have to throw away the entire outfit. Instead you can just put a new zipper on. Even if you are not that good at sewing, it is not as difficult as you may think. You can easily find instructions online and the materials at your local arts and craft store.

Fix the color

Stella for Kids and a Consumer-Smart App - FOXBusiness

Posted: 20 Oct 2010 12:42 PM PDT

Welcome to On Sale at FOX Business, where we look at cool stuff and insane bargains.

Netflix has decided to go disc-free on Wii consoles. Stella McCartney is creating fashion for kids, and GAP is recycling old blues. A new Web site compares e-book prices so you don't have to. Consumer Reports has a new app for bargain-hunters. And a new travel site helps you plan a journey just for you.

Disc-Free Wii

Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is adding another gaming-console-friendly feature to its business model, this time allowing Nintendo Wii users to download a Netflix app on their consoles and go disc-free. With a subscription of $8.99 and above, Netflix customers can stream whatever television show and/or film they choose directly to their Wii consoles. It used to be that Microsoft's (MSFT)

Xbox users were the only ones with this special privilege. The Nintendo/Netflix announcement also follows Sony's (SNE) move last week to allow PS3 console owners to stream Netflix materials in 1080p surround sound.

Stella Kids

Fashion designer Stella McCartney's special clothing line for GapKids (GPS) was so successful, she's decided to expand her personal line to include children. The new line will be featured here starting early next month.

The site will be the primary resource for the new collection, though Stella McCartney stores in Los Angeles and New York are expecting to carry some of the new pieces, which will include rubber rain boots and organic cotton tops and bottoms.

Speaking of GAP, Recycle Your Blues is back again! Bring your old jeans to any GAP store to be recycled. The cashier will give you a 40% discount on new GAP 1969 jeans. (If you have a GAP Card, make that 45% off.)

E-Reader Bargains

For those of you who took advantage of Amazon's (AMZN) price cuts on its Kindle device, or bought Barnes and Noble's (BKS) Nook at a discount, or even those of you who sprung for Apple's (AAPL) iPad, there's an easy way to find the lowest price on e-reader content.

Leatherbound lets you search according to author name or title and compares prices for Kindle, Nook, and iBook. The search results also come with a shortcut to the e-book content provider of your choice, so you can find the best price with a touch of a button, and make it yours with a click of your mouse.

Consumer Smart

Consumer Reports just issued an impressive iPhone app. Consumer Reports Mobile Shopper will cost you $9.99, which may seem like a lot for an app but there's also a lot it can do.

The app allows you to scan barcodes of items you are considering purchasing and instantly be connected to price checks and comparisons with other brands. You'll also get the summaries and recommendations of the trusted Consumer Reports team. Sound interesting? You'll want to get it now, as the app's price is expected to jump to $14.99 next year.

Travel Guide

New travel Web site Wanderfly aims to make the trip-planning process more personal.

When creating an itinerary on Wanderfly.com, the site asks you where you're interested in going, how much you'd like to spend, and what you want to do when you reach your destination.

Wanderfly then searches more than 20 travel sites, including Expedia and Yelp, and makes travel recommendations accordingly. The site also taps into your Facebook profile, finding your friends in faraway places.
