| The Big Market For Big Kids' Clothes - Forbes Posted: 04 Aug 2010 11:01 AM PDT FashionSara Peck, 08.04.10, 02:00 PM EDTPage 2 of 2Smaller businesses, like JeenyBeans.com, which sells custom children's plus-size clothing, also report increased sales. Jan Venema, a seamstress for the company, says business is up: Venema and three other seamstresses stitch clothing from scratch, or alter factory-produced garments to a particular child's measurements. The company also sells unaltered plus-size kids clothes. Lately Venema sees orders for increasingly larger and harder-to-fit kids--a 40-inch waist or a 50-inch chest on 8- or 9-year-olds. "So many of our customers can't find clothes that fit their girls in stores," she says. Jeeny Beans cuts hips only two inches larger than the waist, whereas mainstream retailers might allow six or 10 inches, a more adult figure than most plus-size girls. "I can't tell you how many moms call me saying that the clothes in stores just don't fit," says Venema. Five Filters featured article: "Peace Envoy" Blair Gets an Easy Ride in the Independent. | Sun City's Bell Stitchers provide needy kids with new clothes - AZCentral.com Posted: 04 Aug 2010 10:39 AM PDT Aug. 4, 2010 10:37 AM Mary Jane Grima, Bell Stitchers publicist, submitted this article. Bell Stitchers, a group of Sun City residents, provides needy children with new clothing three times a year. Deliveries are made in August for back-to-school, December for Christmas, and March or April for Easter. Each delivery consists of about 150 outfits and packages of underwear and socks purchased with the funds generated by items they make to sell. They make items that are donated to nursing homes, hospitals and veterans. The downturn in the economy made the need for these items greater. The club provides the material and notions necessary to make the outfits. The club's cupboards are bursting with material from several donations this summer. Starting in September, the club will be on winter hours at the Bell Recreation Center at 99th Avenue and Hutton Drive. Membership is limited to Sun City residents with a current RCSC card. Dues are $3 a year. Information: 623-583-7160. Five Filters featured article: "Peace Envoy" Blair Gets an Easy Ride in the Independent.
