Children's Place tops, ups target

The kids' clothing retailer lifted Q1 EPS 35% to $1, a dime over views. Revenue grew 5% to $422 mil, above estimates. Same-store sales slipped 0.5%. Children's Place (PLCE) was helped by strong profit margins and robust online sales. Wedbush Securities praised newly appointed CEO Jane Elfers' product, marketing and inventory strategies. The company sees a Q2 loss of 35-38 cents vs. views for a 35-cent loss. It hiked its '11 EPS target to $3.05-$3.15 vs. forecasts for $3.11. Shares climbed 2.6% to 42.59.
