| thredUP Makes Children Clothing Swaps More Social - Ecorazzi Posted: 13 Apr 2010 05:29 AM PDT Children outgrow clothing every few months –whether parents buy with a conscience or a budget, they're on a seemingly unending treadmill of purchasing clothes that fit their kids. thredUP aims to halt this cycle of consumption and spending this through its online, peer-to-peer clothing exchange. By building a social network of close friends on thredUP, users swap with people whose backgrounds (and tastes) they trust. Users can also seek clothing beyond their "Inner Circle" by searching the site's listings from its national network of parents. (Currently, the service is only available in the United States.) Parents who list their kids' clothes send their pre-paid thredUP box for free; recipients pay a flat $13 for shipping. thredUP began in October 2009 as a men's and women's shirt-swapping site.
